TASTING OF NEW HUNGARIAN CRAFT BEERS HORIZONT KFT. AND MONYO BREWING KFT. DECEMBER 01, 2022

horizont_beer.jpg In Moscow, on the territory of the iconic Dom Cultural Center, with the support of the Hungarian Embassy in Moscowthe Hungarian Export Development Agency HEPA, and the List Institute, on December 1, a presentation-tasting of Hungarian craft beer was held. Two of the most famous Hungarian breweries, Horizont Kft and Monyo Brewing Kft. joined this event presenting 12 of their best and original beers.

Those who have been to Budapest will no doubt know that there are some very decent craft breweries in Hungary. And although the Hungarian beer culture, at first glance, is not among the world's top destinations, however, it is fraught with a lot of interesting things. Since 2017, Budapest has hosted Budapest Beer Week, a week-long beer festival that goes beyond traditional tasting sessions. V yego programme mnozhestvo lokal'nykh meropriyatiy v gorodskikh barakh — degustatsii, besedy s pivovarami, tap-teykovery, a takzhe mnogochislennyye konferentsii i vystavki dlya professional'nykh uchastnikov rynka. V 2023 godu «pivnaya nedelya» proydot s 22 po 28 maya i soberot okolo 50 pivovaren, v tom chisle 15 vengerskikh. Its program includes many local events in city bars - tastings, talks with brewers, tap-takeovers, as well as numerous conferences and exhibitions for professional market participants. In 2023, the "beer week" will be held from May 22 to 28 and will bring together about 50 breweries, including 15 Hungarian ones.

The event was held in a closed format - for craft specialists: distributors, retailers, as well as bloggers, journalists working in this field. The moderator was a well-known specialist in craft beer: Mikhail Pakhalov. monyo_beer.jpg

Monyo Brewing Kft. According to the founders of the company, Adam Payne and Anti Nemeth: “We are representatives of a new wave in brewing. Our goal is to brew uncompromising beer that satisfies the tastes of consumers as much as possible. Monyo Brewing Kft. pays great attention not only to the originality of tastes, but also to the wishes of consumers. All drinks are made from natural fruits and berries, without the use of preservatives and dyes. The company sees its mission in satisfying the taste of the most demanding, active and diverse audience. In drinks Monyo Brewing Kft. for every 300 ml of drink there are 100 ml of natural juice, which exceeds the average market ratio. At the tasting, the guests were presented with two top beers that the company is rightfully proud of, namely:

Monyo American Beauty 5.6% - traditional American Pale Ale (pale ale), one of the key representatives of the "beer revolution". American rethinking of English Pale Ale. Relatively weak, hoppy, fragrant, drinkable light beer. Brewed with barley malt (Maris Otter), a blend of hops (Warrior, Mosaic, Chinook) with the addition of the best brewer's yeast. Almost a classic!

Flying rabbit 6.5% is one of the most famous Hungarian craft IPAs (a heavily hopped variety of pale ale), one of the main, key in the company's line. This drink is brewed with copious amounts of Citra and Centennial hops for an intense burst of tropical fruit, coniferous and grassy notes on the palate. This medium-bodied IPA was born (or brewed?) to fly!

Beer lovers who are ready to discover new tastes can buy them in the Magnit chain.

And here is another Hungarian craft beer company Horizont Brewing kft. is still going to conquer the markets of the EAEU countries. This manufacturer relies on bright, unusual tastes, original, fashionable and stylish design, which reflects both modern creative trends and styles (for example, geek culture), and refers to the classics - in the line of designs there are references to impressionism and post-impressionism. The main concept of Horizont is: “Create impressions! Strive for flavors that surprise you with every sip. New adventure or discovery. At the tasting, guests were presented with as many as 10 varieties of the best craft. Including original and experimental. There is expanse for every taste: classic lagers, a line of sours, eep (and even the previously beloved, but now almost deceased style of milkshake ipa). I must say that especially, the guests were noted with strawberries and chocolate, aging in a barrel with a good 9.9 ABV. The company itself focuses on two of its varieties:

Gentle Bastard 6.5% - Delightfully ambivalent: bitter but full of tropical flavors, with citrus notes provided by plenty of Amarillo, Columbus malts, and Simcoe and Mosaic hops. The bitterness is smoothly balanced, round, with a soft biscuity maltiness. An outstanding IPA for everyone.

Rebel Berry 4.5% - Light, summery raspberry beer. Refreshing, drinkable, with a smooth and light texture with a touch of acidity. A high content of raspberries gives a creamy aftertaste. A ruby red drink with a pinkish head, just the thing to cool off in.
